Bavol loved music. Music also frustrated him. It was a treasure that he could not whisk away into his hoard. It was a thing that he could only hear outside of his secret lair unless he kidnapped a bard. But Bards were so tasty they never lasted long with him. He looked at the morsels on the stage and his mouth watered.
No! He reminded himself that the pretty music would stop if he ate the bards (for he called all musicians "bards"). He took the human shape so that he would not make the prey run as delightful as that was. Later, he told himself. He would play chase with them later.
There were so many people in the crowd, he would not have noticed them if it weren't for the shiny gleaming out of the shadows. Being a dragon, Bavol adored shiny things. His eerie blue eyes stalked the two figures as they parted from the crowd. One was very tall, and, to Bevol's practiced eye, was wearing shiny things. But that was not the shiny that had caught his attention. The man walking beside the tall one seemed to have shadow cling to him like a lover. A fairy enchantment if Bavol was guessing correctly. In the shadows where the man's head would be, he spotted two shiny...somethings. He was intrigued. Would this be a good addition to his hoard? He had to find out.
He prowled after them, for how else would he approach what he saw as prey?
When he caught up to them, he got very close to the shadowed one. He inhaled deeply. The man smelled like he had potential to make a good dinner...perhaps if he found a mermaid to go on the side...
But he was getting distracted again.
He peered into the shadows of the man, but could not find the shiny. All he saw was some glass in front of the man's eyes.
"Where," he growled, "Are they?" Bevol was starting to feel angry. How dare the meat hide the shiny from him!
