What makes you, you!
Personality:
Szayel is extremely cold, distant, and unemotional. He never smiles, no matter what, unless under rare circumstances. He is brighter around his friends, but his expression is still unemotional, or poker-faced. The reason he is always like this is due to his constant struggle to keep his anger down. Ever since he first discovered he was more than an average mortal, he's developed a burning hatred inside him that has yet to be extinguished. A few years ago, he thought he had the chance to be rid of it, but the conclusion only left Szayel bitter in its wake. So now, there's a bitter hatred inside him, rather than a motivating one. Exactly what his hatred is for is hard to determine. Even he couldn't tell you. He tries to direct it towards an evil man and the atrocities he's committed, but the absence of this man hasn't quelled it. He tries to direct it towards his brother for his betrayal in the past, but he knows this is a vain effort as well. All he knows is that there are nights that his anger is so violent that it physically pains him. He takes his rage out on anyone nearby that he happens to catch in the act of a heinous crime like murder or rape, but it isn't for the sake of doing the right thing. It's because he NEEDED to vent some steam, and they just happened to deserve it. He hides this rage behind a very strict moral code, still believing heavily in the code of chivalry.
That being said, anger aside, Szayel isn't a bad guy. He's more than capable of keeping his emotions in check, and even made quite a few friends in his long life of varying species. His sense of morality is strong, and his sense of loyalty is even stronger. He takes the bond of friendship very seriously, in the sense that he will protect his friends with his life and go out of his way to treat them kindly. If his anger does ever get the best of him while he's trying to stay calm, that's when his Italian roots start showing. When he can't verbally express his anger, his hands do it for him... In the sense that all the aggressive hand gestures that Italians are so fond of start displaying themselves. He's even been known to swear in Italian from time to time, or even use Latin.
Looks:
He's over 500 years old, but doesn't look a day over 27. He wears a maroon jacket with vanilla cuffs and collar, closed in colder weather. Underneath that, he wears a black long sleeve shirt and dark blue pants with a metal-studded belt and brand new-looking black shoes. His hair is medium length, bright orange and is spiked, but still hangs in his face. His eyes are light lavender. He's also been known to carry a long katana on his back; one that's much longer than average for similar swords. Its scabbard is maroon like his jacket, and the handle has gold adornments down to the hilt. Its fancy appearance tends to add to Szayel's aristocratic air about him. Be careful not to touch it, though. It's cursed...

Goals
Szayel wants to discover his purpose in life. He's had to rethink it lately, so he's starting fresh. The biggest lead he has is to discover the truth behind his mother's family line, and why the vampire Von Toten has so much interest in them. Apparently, his "clan" is quite prominent on an island he's never heard of.
Fears
Szayel fears no one; mortal, immortal or in between. He only fears failure, and right now the only thing he's worried about failing is his friends.
Backstory
Family:
Szayel only has one living immediate family member; his brother, Vieri. Other than that, he seems to have ample amounts of distant family on the island. His father was a half-vampire, half-human. His mother was a pure blood.
Bio:
Szayel was born in the city of Florence, Italy. The year was 1458, and the Renaissance period was in full blossom. The city was beautiful, and his family was wealthy. His father, a very successful trader in animal furs and foreign spices, had very strong connections with the powerful families at the time, even having connections in the Vatican. Szayel lived with his mother, father, older brother and younger sister, all of which had varying dreams and aspirations for the time. Unfortunately, when Szayel was only 15 years old, a tragedy would befall his happy life. His father was revealed to be vampire hunter a few years back, and while his eldest son had no intentions of following in his footsteps, his second son jumped at the chance. Szayel was spending his adolescence training with orders such as the Teutonic and Hospitaller Knights, and was constantly warned of orders that wished to rip power away from the Catholic church. When he was 15, one such order revealed itself in an attempt on his family's life. A group of humans led by a powerful vampire attacked his family, and supposedly killed all 5 of them. Szayel does not know how he survived the attack, for he woke up in the Templar Knights' care. They seemed to know much of what had happened, and described the leader vampire as a man named "Vincent Von Toten". They continued raising Szayel from there, one of his father's old friends taking special initiative to form a bond with the boy. It turned out that this man was a Shapeshifter, and intended to teach Szayel how to live as a vampire. This was countered, however, when Szayel revealed he already knew all about his vampirism, and his powers via his mother. In return for their care, Szayel paid back the knights in their service. He proved invaluable on the battlefield, especially against the surprising amount of vampires, lycans and sorcerers that were in their enemies' midst, constantly partaking in war after war through the years against supernatural and human alike. The Vatican contacted him directly after his 37th birthday, wishing to grant him a special mission where he would attack the church's enemies directly. Szayel's powers of fire gave him a reputation as a dragon in human form, leaving most survivors scorched.
It took nearly another century in their service, but Szayel soon began to catch on to the Catholic church's corruption, and how they used him for more strategic things rather than peace-keeping. Szayel left their service on bad terms, but took up to fighting for what he believed in by himself. He only did this for a decade before he realized one man could not make the difference the world needed. So he decided to set out on a journey to discover what he needed to make that difference. Szayel never found it...
Along the way, he picked up a cursed sword, which although dangerous has proven invaluable over time. Along with that, he spent the next few centuries dedicating his life to making a fortune. He decided if he was going to change the world, he needed money. So through careful marketing and several false identities, Szayel earned a small fortune that he can access in any country in the known world, thanks to his business ties. His life seemed frivolous, and passed the time by hunting down supernaturals with evil or malicious intent, almost like a vigilante. This eventually brought him to a small, supernatural-populated city in the US, several years ago. Szayel doesn't like to discuss the details, but it's been gathered that the man "Von Toten" reemerged after all this time, and that he was responsible for a harsh tragedy. Although, as a team effort with his friends, the crisis was dealt with and resolved, Szayel and his friends having won the final battle. Unfortunately, that circle of friends slowly began to drift apart. Life carried them separate ways, and Szayel began to feel lost again. This changed when Szayel was told of Galivladi Island.
Apparently, his mother was a part of some important vampire clan, and that island was a good place to start for finding his destiny. So on his private boat (yes, he has a boat), he set forth for the island.
The End of the Segment
Strengths:
Szayel has centuries worth of combat experience, being a part of dozens of wars and thousands upon thousands of battles. He excels at swordsmanship, and has had ample practice using his special fire powers. Even for a vampire, Szayel is known as one of the stronger of his species. His loyalty to his friends is infallible, and he'll protect them with his life. Despite his quiet nature and blunt honesty, his passion makes him quite charismatic. He has a massive amount of money and knows how to save it, so he has quite the access to resources off the island.
Weaknesses:
Szayel's temper is slow to start (unless he hates you), but is quite sensitive when triggered. He can get so angry that he can't think clearly, and may even hurt himself from the strain on his heart and mind. Add that to a strict moral code, and he could be easy to manipulate by a more intelligent opponent. If you don't know Szayel, he's actually very intimidating. The friends that remember meeting him for the first time can assure you of it, but he himself never notices, so he has been known to give a terrifying first impression by complete accident. Finally, Szayel's pyrokinesis is directly linked to his anger, unfortunately. If he can't get his temper under control, things have been known to spontaneously combust while he passes by.
Special Ability:
Szayel was born with a sovereignty over fire. It was even his "symbol" during the crisis. He can command fire, heat, and even smoke and ash with his abilities if it is directly his doing. He can start fires at will, varying from that of an average matchstick to a violent explosion, with just a point, snap, or even a glance. He can even shoot fire from his mouth in a stream, like a dragon. He can make already existing fires flare up or put them out, and can even direct the smoke and ashes from fires that he's directly controlling. With enough focus, or even raw rage, he's been known to melt steel in seconds, but the average use of his powers doesn't go beyond intensities of regular fire. His ability thankfully makes his skin extremely resistant to heat, being able to hold white hot metal without hurting himself. He does have to have his clothes specially made, though.
Szayel can even use his powers to get some lift off by firing jet-like streams from his hands and feet in short bursts. Many people mistake it for the ability to fly, but he can't fly with it. It's more like jumping really high and really far mixed with some skillful gliding. He uses the same technique to heat up his cursed sword, which can continue to rise in temperature indefinitely. Since it's indestructible, it can get as hot as the fire he blasts it with without sacrificing integrity, and it doesn't even burn his hand. The sword is definitely cursed, though. While sheathed, it doesn't affect him, but once it's drawn, it amplifies his bloodlust. The longer he uses it, the more he needs to feed, and if he doesn't it weakens his body considerably until he does. This can even kill him if he ever found it necessary to fight the incredible urges the sword gives him. The sword also has a strict restriction of use against the cold. The only things Szayel has ever had trouble using the sword on were naturally cold terrains and ice magic. It weakens the blade considerably, like it isn't burning at all. It also loses its indestructibility, making it no different than a normal sword. Using it on ice is like swinging a normal sword against rocks: not very fruitful. Thank goodness the island isn't Greenland, or something...
How does your character handle the bloodlust
Szayel is actually only one quarter human. Thus, he actually craves blood like a normal vampire. His tolerance to going long periods without it is
extremely high when compared to pure bloods, but due to his dominant vampire genes, he does still require blood like they do. This also means that
Szayel is much more sensitive to the sun. He can last just a bit longer than pure bloods, but he still can't go out in daylight without hurting himself and is completely restricted to either night travel or staying heavily concealed while outdoors.
His bloodlust absolutely will get the better of him, though, if he draws his sword. It may not flare up immediately, sometimes even waiting for him to put the sword away first. This, however, is apparently up to the sword. It has been known to affect him while it is still drawn, leaving Szayel no way of knowing for sure how quickly it will set in. He only knows that the longer it's out, the more blood he needs and the more powerful the urges become. If he doesn't give in to it, his body begins to waste away until he does feed. Depending on how long he waits, it could take minutes, hours, or even days for him to completely recover... and if he can't get any blood, it could very well kill him...
What side does your character take (Islanders or FASA):
Szayel hasn't picked a side yet, but will probably pick Island out of principle.
