Getting to Know You
Name:
Cyrus Shatterheart
Age:
20
Gender:
Male
Sexual Orientation:
Straight
Species:
Sorcerer, but had a faye ancestor, as clearly shown by the hair and eyes.
What kind (Malicious or Benevolent):
Malicious
What makes you, you!
Personality:
The two most important things to remember about Cyrus are his favorite food: potatoes, and to never make fun of him for his height.
Under normal circumstances, he's a nice guy. His favorite band is Tool, which he listens to the most out of the music on his mp3 player, especially while meditating and practicing. He enjoys fighting friend and foe alike to see how he compares to them in terms of skill. His policy for life is to treat others with the same respect that he wants in return. He's friendly enough, and polite to everyone he meets, but Cyrus is, for all intents and purposes, a showboat. With an ego as vast as the sky above him, he makes a special effort to make himself look "cool", and he'll play the hero more often than not for the positive reviews. Although he won't acknowledge it directly, he finds people's opinions of him to be very important, and he has a genuine tendency to want to do the right thing. This is easily overcome by him though, if he starts to dislike you. Even a hint of superiority in your voice is enough to make Cyrus want to see why you think you're so great. He isn't openly rude, though. Instead, he gets his aggression out through challenges (formal or otherwise), and through joking and teasing (usually in the middle of a fight). Depending on how much he dislikes you, this could even be an attempt to humiliate you. The same can be said for someone he particularly likes, though without the humiliation. He is a total clown and likes making his friends laugh, so he'll never be mean to them with sincerity. His complex for competitiveness stems from his formal martial arts training, but this also gives him a surprising amount of discipline... Even if his mouth doesn't show it. He tends to be very expressive with his emotions, and is bad at hiding things.... Like how dumb he is. Asking any of his old friends would result in words being used like... "imbecile", "dense", "uneducated", and yes... "idiot".
That is Cyrus in socializing mode. When fighting, he displays just how much discipline and focus he really has (despite his motor mouth). He'll even shut up if he needs to get serious. One thing to be careful of though is his "dark side". Cyrus has a frequent attraction to violence, this being his preferred method of conflict resolution, but the further his life is endangered, the further he begins to enjoy himself... and not in the Goku way. With his creed of "respect others how you want", an attempt on his life results in him believing he can "cut loose". In these rare occasions that he "cuts loose", he grows more and more attracted to the violence as it escalates. This could even be taken to fetish-levels of love for violence if the battle is intense enough.
The final tick we see in Cyrus is his height issue. He is short. He knows he is short. He tries to brush past it if people slip up and mention it. But he will get pissed... And I mean PISSED if you mock him with sincerity over his height. He's been underestimated his whole life because he was small.
Looks:
He is short for his age, being only about 5"4, and in the middle between skinny and muscled, but he is toned as hell. He has long, light blue hair and yellow eyes. He has a thin scruff of hair over his chin like a beard that either was recently shaved, or is just starting to grow, and wears a pendant around his neck that he got from his master. It's silver and holds the symbol to his dojo on one side, and an eagle on the other. His go-to outfit is a royal blue jacket with a zipper (no shirt beneath) and black pants. He does have more than this, mostly modern age-looking clothes, but this is his favorite jacket. He's also known for carrying around an mp3 player with a small speaker to attach it to. Finally, he carries around a bo staff that is exactly one foot taller than he is. It's outside is wood, but it has a metal core that extends the entire length of the staff. It's a tad heavier than your average staff, but it's namely to act as a lightning rod to avoid getting hit.
Magic Type:
Cyrus has specifically dedicated his powers to the lightning element of magic, although his versatility with it is limited. At the same time that he began his magic training, he also underwent martial arts training. As a result, Cyrus has been trying to invent his own martial art that combines the two styles of combat he's proficient with along with his lightning magic. He learned of a spell that allows him to harness electric energy into his own body to amplify his natural abilities, so instead of training for everything in that magical category at once, he's decided to master that one spell before continuing his sorcerer studies. As his master told him, "One who has mastered a single move is more valuable of a warrior, rather than one who simply knows 10,000."
The spell Cyrus learned naturally acclimates his body's cells to be able to store and transfer electric energy beyond that of what's normally considered possible; specifically by absorbing electric energy from outside sources, like batteries or electrical equipment. As a result, he's able to use electricity as a form of combat. He can use the energy to increase his body's strength, speed, reaction time, and even thought process at specific intervals, depending on how much energy he uses. He can "juice" himself from intervals between just seconds at a time, to minutes of straight use (although anything longer than a minute causes the risk of self-injury to go up exponentially). Unfortunately, this spell is usually saved for extremely advanced sorcerers, so the process of mastering it takes decades at the least. The reason for this is that the physical body can naturally only do so much that breaking these limits has proved to be extremely dangerous. Although this is magic, one's body can't compensate for the increase of muscle output, chemical acceleration, and brain activity without overexerting itself, forcing a state of recovery equal to the amount of power used. When used with the proper restraint, the side effects can be as minor as fatigue or increase of metabolism (something Cyrus has no problem with). Overexerting himself, however, can damage his body from small things like dizziness, muscle soreness, or even loss of consciousness, to big problems like tissue death, organ failure or brain damage. That being said, because Cyrus found that martial arts was an effective way to practice control over it, he's become aware of most of his own limits in using this spell. While it may not be a permanent upgrade, being "juiced" can give him enough to hold his own in terms of speed and strength against some of the more dangerous supernaturals, like lycans. Especially those without formal combat training, as his training is his biggest advantage in this state.
Cyrus uses the same principles of breathing and meditation as his martial arts in order to focus his training. As a result, he's been more of a natural at attuning his body to the natural flow of the energy inside him (It's amazing how much arcane electromancy and Buddhist philosophy coincide). Because of this, he's able to use this spell in more adept ways than usual for someone of his level of training, like a genius... But don't tell him that part.... Since he's a natural, he can use this spell in ways other than body enhancement. He's been known to shock people on skin contact like a taser, power small to medium-sized devices, overload electronics, and even shoot stored energy like lightning from his hands. He uses this part in his invented martial arts as a way of dealing long-range strikes, which are practically instantaneous (unless you're faster than lightning). The force of the lightning is drastically reduced from a natural bolt, but the proper environmental condition could even send people flying for short distances. At the least, it's enough to hurt someone enough to stun them. At most, it may kill them, but this is not guaranteed. The final (and most morbid) of his applications is the ability to harness the natural electric energy of electrolytes in his body. If he doesn't have any spare energy, he can use his body's own natural energy to do this, but that is the biggest no-no. Using the chemical energy in his body can produce the same effect as using energy he's accumulated, but at the cost of accelerated bad side-effects. Even dipping into it for a moment can cause irreparable damage, and judging by his intelligence level... he's used it before... (ok, that's not why he's dense, but it's funny to think about) Cyrus discovered that even the human body runs on electricity, so he devised a special way of disposing with those he decides to kill. He won't always do it, but Cyrus can absorb the electrolytes from another person's body if he is in direct contact with anything sub-skin level. For example, placing his hand directly onto an open wound, or in someone's mouth. He doesn't have to take all of their energy, but even leaving a small amount left inside them would likely result in death. He can still feel the tingle of the electrolytes in blood that gets splattered on himself. To him, the gentle buzz of the miniscule amount of energy he's absorbing is a reminder of how much he likes to fight. It isn't enough to make a real difference, but he likes the feeling.
There is one more side-effect that comes with storing this much energy in his body at once. While he has perfect control over keeping it contained inside himself, this unfortunately makes him a wee bit susceptible to getting hit by lightning. While this would kill a beginner, since lightning is a natural occurrence and has its own minute magical properties, Cyrus's body has been acclimated to sudden natural surges like this. This still has a chance of killing him if his body isn't ready, so he tries to stay concentrated when the risk is present. While on guard, instead of death it usually just hurts. Although this may not kill him, getting struck has been known to give him strange side-effects. These include things like: increased energy, faster speech, severely reduced attention span, hyper appetite, or in the most often cases just coats him in soot. Again unfortunately, these are always followed by energy crashes. Usually extreme lethargy, or even just passing out. Cyrus has no idea what determines how lightning strikes will affect him, so the results are usually just as much of a surprise to him as anyone else. So good luck should that happen. He carries a bo staff with him everywhere that also serves as his own personal lightning rod, in case he can't avoid going out on a cloudy day.

Goals
Cyrus announces that his goal is to become a master in his chosen style of combat, so that he can use his power to protect the innocent from those who mean them harm. He hopes to one day play an important part in bringing the world to a state of peace. Most of all, he's determined to find his sister and save her if it costs him his life. He also has the side goal of breaking the world record for amount of potatoes consumed, even if he is the previous record holder.
Fears
Cyrus fears most of all that he will cause more harm than good. He's hurt people before without meaning to, and he hasn't forgiven himself for it yet.
Backstory
Family:
Cain (Father)- Sorcerer, deceased
Alcemean (Mother)- Sorcerer (with faye mixed in), deceased
Beowulf (Older Brother)- Sorcerer, alive, 7 years older
Ophelia (Younger Sister)- Sorcerer, unknown, 7 years younger
Bio:
Cyrus's life doesn't begin very excitingly. A sorcerer family living in the states to try and get away from the danger and politics of supernatural life. Unfortunately, things go south around the time Cyrus was 9 years old, when his parents were targeted by other supernaturals and killed. Cyrus and his brother weren't present at the time, but their sister was. She was nowhere to be found, whereas their parents' corpses were left on the scene, so the brothers clinged to the hope that she was merely kidnapped instead of dead. Using their family connections, they went on a journey to find her and bring justice to those who ruined their lives. They were sent to different people to be taught separate, since Beowulf had already begun his sorcerer training and would be different from his brother. Cyrus was sent to a different town in the US where supernaturals were abound. There he was taught the ways of his destruction magic, and began with lightning. In the process of doing so, Cyrus also came across a man who ran his own martial arts dojo. Cyrus became enamored with the practicality this experience would have for his quest, so he became this man's student. Little did he know the extent of this man's knowledge and experience, for he was also a sorcerer. A very old one, who had dedicated a large portion of his life to simply studying different martial arts. He found Cyrus to be especially talented in the Tai Chi, Kung Fu and Shuri-Ryu disciplines, so he focused the boy's training to mostly these three, with others thrown in to expand his dexterity. Over time, Cyrus not only displayed a natural talent, but began to incorporate his martial arts knowledge into his magic training. The results were better than he had expected. He'd reached the precipice of black belt status, but quit attending formal lessons once all he needed were the studying requirements. He begged his master to teach him in private to use his magic with martial arts. The master taught him everything he could, but he knew what Cyrus needed was to create his own style, so he gave him wisdom and told him to follow the righteous path. Cyrus left that night to start his journey. He knew his brother was in Europe, searching for Ophelia there, so he'd search for her in the US. He now finds himself on Galivladi Island, this being the best place to start when it comes to supernatural back-alley dealings.
That is the story he gives, which is actually mostly true. Cyrus leaves out the part where the man who taught him magic was one that works for the government. Cyrus never learned very many details, but the man specifically needed the boy's help it would seem. It was from him who he learned about the island, and in exchange for his aid, Cyrus promised to be his personal reconnaissance agent for the inner workings of the supernatural world... And its underworld...
The End of the Segment
Strengths:
Cyrus is a quick thinker when it comes to fighting, and has great control and discipline. He's in great physical shape, and has a strong sense of empathy and morality. He's also good at making friends, although normally his friends are the ones to find him. His greatest strength is his determination. He is headstrong to a fault and will continue pressing forward no matter how hard the world pushes back.
Weaknesses:
Cyrus has nearly no formal education. Heck, he couldn't even read up until a short time ago. He's also normally in good control of his emotions despite his animated demeanor, but anything involving anger or annoyance may cause him to erupt. This is even more true when it comes to fighting, as he often becomes engulfed in the heat of a battle with something at stake. He's also impatient, and quite egotistical. Hurting his pride slows him down a lot quicker than hurting his body will. He will also often put the safety of others above his own, given that he thinks he has even the slightest chance of saving them. His greatest strength is also his worst weakness. His tenacity has proven to get him into trouble more than once, and may often take a step farther than he should have. This is usually seen through him overusing his magic and causing frequent pain and discomfort.
